The Thompson Community Center in Union is announcing the launch of its capital campaign.

It is necessary for the Center to install a life safety sprinkler system throughout the buildings to ensure the safety of our tenants and guests, protect the property and allow for future flexibility in the use of the buildings.  The complete cost for the installation of the system is $50,000.  We already have computer aided design drawings of the buildings that the engineering and design plans will come from.  Bryan and  Amanda  Austin of 2A Architects in Rockport provided us with a great set of plans and donated a generous portion of the cost back to the Center. The next step will be to do the engineering and submit a construction application to the State Fire Marshall’s Office.  Once the plans are approved by the Fire Marshall’s Office, construction can begin.  The installation will be done by Northeast Fire Sprinkler Corporation.  Gerry Leach, the owner of Northeast Fire Sprinkler Corporation has been a huge help to the Center by providing guidance, arranging a walk through with the State Fire Marshall’s Office and developing a system that reaches our goal at an affordable cost.

The goal of the Center is to have the sprinkler system in place in the spring of 2011.  The first phase of the fundraising will be a goal of $6000.  This will pay for the engineering and permitting to lock the project in under today’s standards.  After that $6,000 goal is reached, the next level will be an additional $17,000.  Once we reach the $23,000 level, the actual construction can begin.  Northeast Fire Sprinkler Corporation expects installation to take about 2 months.  The work will be done around tenant activities and Center activities and the more accommodating we can be, the quicker the work will be completed.

Please consider donating to help us reach our goal. You can donate now simply by choosing our secure on-line donation service below or by mailing a donation to Thompson Community Center/Sprinkler Fund, PO Box 824, Union, ME  04862.
